Olga Rozanova
Olga Rozanova's Playing Cords cycle of paintings was
based on a series of linocuts illustrating Alexei Kruchenykh's
Transnational Gook in 1914
and 1915. Several experts, however, believe that Rozanova actually
painted these works in 1912. Besides the concepts of
chance and fate, the theme of cards also reflects the
interest of the avant-garde artists in such primitive folk images
as lubok prints or signboards.
